Dr. Maurice Gattis is an associate professor at Virginia Commonwealth University School of Social Work where he engages in teaching, research, and intervention development regarding LGBTQIA+ health and mental health, with an emphasis on LGBTQIA+ youth experiencing homelessness. He holds a B.A. in sociology from Emory University, an M.S.S.W. from Columbia University School of Social Work and a Ph.D. in social welfare from the Brown School at Washington University in St. Louis. He leads a spring break study abroad trip that is LGBTQIA+ look at post-colonial South Africa for students at VCU. He has also been awarded Fulbright's in Canada and South Africa.
